Use LinkedIn Learning in Canvas
On this page:
Overview
LinkedIn Learning is an online, self-paced learning platform that offers video courses to help you increase your technology, creative, and business skills. Indiana University has integrated LinkedIn Learning into Canvas, so instructors can make courses available to students as graded assignments or as part of a module. LinkedIn Learning is available in all Canvas courses.
Add LinkedIn Learning to Canvas
When you set up a LinkedIn Learning assignment or module item, the default behavior is to send the student to the LinkedIn Learning home page and log them in with their iu.edu login information. If you want to send your students to a specific training, especially if you want to give them a grade for it, you will need to get the URL for the specific course and use it when setting up the assignment or module item.
Set up your Canvas assignment
To create a graded assignment in LinkedIn Learning, you'll need to create a Canvas assignment that uses an external tool as the submission type:
-
Log into Canvas, and navigate to your course.
- From the course navigation menu, choose .
- To create a new assignment, select .
- Name the assignment, and write a description or instructions if you wish.
- For "Points", enter

Grading behavior for LinkedIn Learning courses
As your students progress through the assigned course in LinkedIn Learning, the percentage of the course that they have completed will appear in the Canvas gradebook. For instance, if a student has watched half of the videos in the course, the Canvas gradebook will show a score of 50%. Students can access the course multiple times in order to complete it. LinkedIn Learning will pick up where the student left off and allow them to continue taking the course. When they have completed the entire course, the Canvas gradebook will show 100%.
