About Aira at IU

Overview

Aira is a service that connects people who are blind or visually impaired with a sighted person via iPhone or Android to provide visual information to those who need it. The app supports a face-to-face call and text messaging for people who are in a setting where speech is not an option.

Aira instructions

Instructions for downloading, setting up, and using Aira are available on the Aira home page.

Access Aira on campus

Aira's geofencing covers around 1200 buildings across the IU system. It is available to students, faculty, staff, and visitors who would benefit from visual interpretive services. If you already have an account with Aira and the app is open on your device, you should receive a notification when you are within range of a geofenced area at IU.
