This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

The Top Hat Beta pilot uses the LTI 1.3 Canvas integration, which introduces new features and procedures. Top Hat Beta is available to students, faculty, and staff on a limited basis; to request access to the Top Hat Beta pilot, submit the form at Next.IU.

  • New features:
    • Roster Sync: Allows you to automate your course enrollment. Roster Sync is sometimes also known as Names and Role Provisioning Services (NRPS).
    • Grade Sync: Allows you to sync grades automatically or manually.
    • Deep Linking: Enables you to display direct links to Top Hat content inside the LMS course. For example, you could link directly to a Top Hat discussion from an assignment or module, or create a content page with embedded questions, videos, or discussions and link directly to the Top Hat page.
    • Access Top Hat in Canvas: Instructors can select Top Hat Beta from the course navigation menu.
  • New procedures:
    • Mapping Canvas courses to Top Hat courses is different in Top Hat Beta. No assignment is required for instructors to access Top Hat. Instructors can select Top Hat Beta from the course navigation menu and follow the steps in Connect a Canvas Course to Top Hat.
    • In Top Hat Beta, manual grade sync is done in the Top Hat grade book instead of in settings.
    • Students must initially access your Top Hat course using the Top Hat Beta button in your Canvas course navigation. If students join your course with a Top Hat join code, roster sync will remove them from your class when auto roster sync occurs.
