Notes for screen reader users

), etc., are used to access tools (for example, , , and ) from the Microsoft Teams navigation bar on the left. Because local UITS support people and units can customize the order of tools listed in the Microsoft Teams navigation bar, the combination keystrokes for accessing any particular tool will vary. For a full list of keyboard commands, see Keyboard Commands for Microsoft Teams. - When navigating in Chat or other parts of Microsoft Teams:

Insert-z
to toggle the JAWS virtual cursor on and off. - Press
Insert-Space
to switch between focus and browse mode in NVDA; for more about using browse and focus mode in NVDA, see Browse Mode in the NVDA User Guide.

- The file viewer in Microsoft Teams may not be keyboard accessible. If a screen reader user tabs into the viewer, they will need to press
Shift-Tab
until they get back to the main chat. Microsoft recommends opening files in an app. - The Assistive Technology and Accessibility Centers (ATAC) can provide support for installing and using Doug Lee's JAWS scripts for Microsoft Teams.
Known issues
- Navigating Microsoft Teams with Voice Control (in macOS): The "Show numbers" command currently does not let you select elements of the Microsoft Teams navigation bar. As a workaround, either use the "Show grid" command to click on interface elements or create a custom command using Microsoft Teams keyboard shortcuts to navigate to each part of the interface.
