Request braille and tactile graphics for approved accommodations

On this page:

Overview

If you have a student with an approved alternative format text accommodation who then requests that certain content in your course be provided to them in braille or as a tactile graphic, submit a request to the ATAC via the Braille and Tactile Graphics request form. The documents you submit for conversion will need to meet the minimum accessibility guidelines prior to submission.

Braille

For braille requests, the ATAC can accept either accessible Microsoft Word documents or accessible Microsoft PowerPoint slides.

Canvas quizzes

Canvas quizzes are not acceptable input formats and must first be converted into an accessible Microsoft Word document prior to submitting. The Centers for Teaching and Learning can assist with exporting Canvas Quizzes using Respondus 4.0.

Math content

Any math in a document submitted for conversion needs to be presented using a standard digital math option to meet the minimum accessibility standard. Be sure to supply an accessible Microsoft Word document using the Equation Tools to enter any math content.

Tactile graphic supplements

When requesting tactile graphic supplements, please provide either accessible Microsoft Word documents or accessible Microsoft PowerPoint slides. Image titles and image descriptions are required to provide context to the converted graphic.

Conversion timeline

Turnaround time can vary greatly, so meet with the student as soon as possible to determine if they want any of their materials in braille (textbook excluded, which students will request separately).
