ARCHIVED: At IU, what is a local support provider?
Note: The term "local support provider" is being phased out in favor of the term "IT Pro". Most of the description below pertains specifically to Registered and/or Authorized IT Pros; see About local UITS support at IU
The term local support provider (LSP) refers to departmental or school-based IT Pros for whom computing support is the primary part of their official job description. Computing support may consist of planning, implementing, and securing computer systems or software; technical troubleshooting; and resolving technical problems.
LSPs are authorized and qualified by their school, department, or campus to provide technology support and services. LSPs must have and maintain expertise as required to adequately support locally deployed technical services.
LSPs must adhere to requirements associated with both their recognition as an LSP and their use of sensitive tools and capabilities granted to them as a registered LSP.
UITS encourages staff performing LSP duties to increase their technical knowledge by attending EdCert classes and becoming certified in appropriate technologies that will help them provide local computing support.
