ARCHIVED: In Unix, how do I print a Texinfo file?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

Note: You cannot get quality printed output from Info files; you must still have the original Texinfo source file for the manual you want to print.

If you have TeX installed on your Unix computer, follow these steps to print a Texinfo file:

  1. Make sure the first line of the Texinfo file looks like this:
     \input texinfo
You may need to replace texinfo with the full pathname of the texinfo.tex file, which comes with Emacs as man/texinfo.tex (or copy or link it into the current directory).
  2. Enter tex X.texinfo.
  3. Enter texindex filename.ext, replacing filename.ext with the appropriate filename.

Note: The texindex program comes with Emacs as man/texindex.c.

  4. Enter tex filename.texinfo.
  5. Print the DVI file filename.dvi as you would any other DVI file at your site. For more information, see ARCHIVED: In LaTeX or TeX in Unix, how do I create and print a document?

This information comes from the Emacs FAQ.
