ARCHIVED: In Microsoft Outlook, how can I make replies to a message I send go to an address other than mine?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

In Outlook, you can designate a specific Reply to address for one message at a time. Then, replies to that particular message will automatically go to the address you've specified. This new Reply to address overrides your default Reply to address.

The default Reply to address for Cyrus (Webmail) and Exchange accounts at Indiana University Bloomington is username@campus.edu, where username is your Network ID username, and campus is the domain for your campus (e.g., indiana for IU Bloomington or iupui for IUPUI).

To set a new Reply to address for a message in Outlook:

  1. Compose your message.
  2. Open Message Options:
    • Outlook 2013 or 2010: Click the Options tab, and then click Direct Replies To.
    • Outlook 2007: On the Message tab, to the right of "Options", click Message Options.
  3. In the "Delivery options" section, check Have replies sent to:. Your own name is the default; you may delete it. Enter a valid email address. Alternatively, to make your selection from the Address Book, click Select names..., select the desired name, and then click Reply To->. You can select as many names as you wish.
  4. To return to the message body, click Close (Outlook 2013 or 2010), or click OK, and then Close (Outlook 2007).
Note:
Any mail sent to username@exchange.campus.edu from a system outside IU will be rejected, generating a bounce message to the sending system. Be sure your mail is sent to username@iu.edu.
