ARCHIVED: If you get a "The computer name you specified is already in use on the network" error message when trying to connect to the IU network

If you attempt to connect to the Indiana University network and see the following error message, it means the name you have given your computer on the network matches one that already exists:

The computer name you specified is already in use on the network.

To avoid this, UITS recommends that you use your IU username as your computer's name on the network; see Change the name of your Windows computer.
