ARCHIVED: At IU, how does the removal of AppleTalk routing from the network affect me?
As of July 1, 2003, UITS no longer routes the AppleTalk protocol. Though it is possible for computers and printers on the same local area network (LAN) to communicate over AppleTalk, more distant resources are no longer available.
For example, you can still print via AppleTalk to a printer that is in your office, but not to one in another building. Instead, you need to use the TCP/IP protocol to connect to file servers or printers on the network. To ensure that you have properly configured your computer for this, follow the instructions in the appropriate Knowledge Base document below:
Mac OS X
- Print over TCP/IP (the internet) in macOS
- ARCHIVED: In Mac OS X, how do I connect to network servers or another computer on the network?
Mac OS 9 and earlier
