Overview

Indiana University students, faculty, and staff can access classes to become an "IU Certified Splunk User" for free. The free courses will be removed at a future date, so if you are interested in the training, you should complete them as soon as possible. When you complete the courses, you are ready to be a campus user; forward your course completion email to techselect@iu.edu.

Classes include Splunk Fundamentals I and Splunk Fundamentals II.

Create a Splunk account

Before you can access the classes to become an IU Certified Splunk Power User, you must first create a Splunk account. To do so:

  1. Go to Splunk.com.
  2. In the top right, click the user icon ( Splunk user icon ) and select Sign Up.
    Note:
    If the registration form doesn't load and your browser has AdBlock installed, be sure to turn off AdBlock for this site. For help, see How to disable AdBlock on specific sites.
  3. Complete the account registration form.
    Note:
    Be sure to use an iu.edu email address.

    You'll receive a verification email message with a link to validate your email address.

Access Splunk training

To access Splunk training:

  1. Go to Splunk.com and log in.
  2. In the top right, click Training.
  3. Click View My Training Profile.
  4. To search for specific classes, click Search.
  5. Change the delivery method to e-Learning and click Search.
  6. Find the course you want to add and select Add to Cart +.
  7. When you are ready, click Checkout to finish registering for the course.
  8. On the next screen, make sure that you:
    1. Enter your organization's name (for example, school, non-profit, or university name) in the "Company" field.
    2. Click the radio button to agree that you will finish the course within 30 days.
  9. Once the information on this screen is correct and complete, click Continue.
  10. For "Attendee Payment Method", select Splunk Pledge.
  11. In the "Conference Code" text box that appears under "Attendee Payment Method", enter Academic (for K-12/college/university).

    Once Splunk4Good verifies your email address, the course you registered for will be available to you without fee.
