ARCHIVED: At IU, with a Windows Mobile or Pocket PC device, why can't I browse the web using Pocket Internet Explorer?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.

With default settings, Pocket Internet Explorer cannot load most web pages over a VPN connection. Pocket Internet Explorer will only use the VPN connection when making HTTP requests within the VPN server's own domain, which at Indiana University is indiana.edu or iupui.edu. When requesting a web page outside the VPN server's domain (i.e., outside of indiana.edu or iupui.edu), Pocket Internet Explorer tries to bypass the VPN connection, causing the request to fail.

For Pocket PC 2002 and earlier, you need to install a third-party browser such as NetFront or ThunderHawk to browse the web while using a VPN connection.

For Windows Mobile 2003 and later, you can enter *.* (asterisk, period, asterisk) into the Intranet exceptions dialog box.
