Renewing a certificate for digitally signed email

Once your certificate expires, you will be unable to send or encrypt email using your certificate. All old sent mail will display a message saying, "There is a problem with this digital certificate" to indicate the certificate is expired (some mail clients may also display a visual indicator, such as a red line); however, all old mail will still be readable by all parties.

Important:
To renew your certificate, you will need to know the passphrase you created when you originally requested your certificate. If you don't know it, instead follow the instructions in Getting an S/MIME certificate for digital email signatures at IU to request a new certificate.

If you know your passphrase, follow the instructions below to renew your S/MIME certificate.
