ARCHIVED: At IU, how do I configure SnapperMail as an IMAP client for my Palm OS?

To use SnapperMail as an IMAP client on your Palm, you must have 802.11b wireless networking and configure it to use Indiana University's VPN service. For more information, see the Knowledge Base document ARCHIVED: With a Palm Tungsten, how do I make a VPN connection to the IU network?
You will need to use the Enterprise version of SnapperMail, which includes IMAP4 support, to correctly configure your email on your Palm at IU. You may purchase SnapperMail Enterprise edition through the web page below:

To configure SnapperMail, follow the steps below.
- Download the SnapperMail Enterprise client onto your PC.
- Install it on your Palm via your sync software.
- Open the SnapperMail icon from the menu on your Palm.
- Once SnapperMail is open, tap at the bottom of the screen. It will prompt you to set up your mail account.
- At the top of the screen under "Compose new message with:" select the option.
- Under "Receive mail from:", uncheck the box and highlight and check the box for . Next, tap at the bottom of the screen.
- Enter your name, and then enter your full IU email address,
e.g.,
dvader@indiana.edu
. You may leave "Reply To address" and blank if you wish. - Tap the tab at the top of the screen.
- For "Incoming Mail", use the following settings.
- Next to "IMAP4 server" click
- If you use Exchange, type
imap.exchange.iu.edu
. - If you use Cyrus mail, enter
imap.iu.edu
.
and then
enter your mail server.
- If you use Exchange, type
- Tap .
- Enter your username and tap .
- Enter your password and then tap .
- Next to "IMAP4 server" click
- For "Outgoing Mail", follow the steps below.
- Next to "Outgoing Mail:" enter
mail-relay.iu.edu
. - Enter your username and tap .
- Enter your password and tap .
- Next to "Outgoing Mail:" enter
- Tap the button at the bottom of the screen.
- Under IMAP 4 settings you will see "No SSL security". Tap the down arrow and choose . This will change the "use port" setting to 993. Then check the box.
- Under SMTP settings you will see "No SSL security". Tap the down arrow and choose . This will change the "use port" setting to 465. Then check the box.
- Click . Then, click again. Then click .
- Be sure your VPN connection is established and press at the bottom of the main SnapperMail screen to activate your email.
