To complete these procedures, you must be assigned a role having the necessary permissions. If you're not sure what your role is, see the "Role" column in the Roster tool. For permissions, see ARCHIVED: What can I do in read-only Oncourse?

You can add, change, or move columns or rows in a portfolio matrix at any time, even after the matrix has been published.

You can delete matrix rows and columns until a student has done work in the matrix.

On this page:

Adding a column or row

  1. In the site containing the matrix you wish to modify, from the menubar, click Matrices.
  2. On the "Manage Matrices" page, locate the matrix you wish to modify, and click Edit.
  3. On the "Edit Matrix" page, click Edit Properties, and scroll to the "Structure" area.
  4. To add a column, under "Columns", click Add Column. To add a row, under "Rows", click Add Row.
  5. Enter a name for the new column/row and, optionally, select a background color and font color.
  6. Click Update to save your changes and return to the "Edit Matrix Properties" page.
  7. Your new column/row definition will appear at the bottom of the list of columns or rows, and by default it will appear at the far right (for new columns) or bottom (for new rows) when the matrix is displayed. To change its position, use the Up and Down links next to its name. Clicking Up moves the corresponding column one position to the left and Down moves it one column to the right. The Up and Down links work as expected for rows.
  8. When you are finished modifying the matrix structure, click Save Changes to save your work.

Before participants can use the cells in the new column/row, you will need to add guidance and forms, and you may also wish to assign reviewers or evaluators to the cells. Forms, reviewers, and evaluators can be set as defaults for an entire matrix, or can be added or changed for a specific cell. You must add guidance to each cell individually. For information on how to complete these tasks, see:
