Important:
Oncourse is retired. For details, see ARCHIVED: About the Oncourse retirement.
Note:
To complete these procedures, you must be assigned a role having the necessary permissions. If you're not sure what your role is, see the "Role" column in the Roster tool. For permissions, see ARCHIVED: What can I do in read-only Oncourse?

You can add an assessment (i.e., a test, quiz, or survey) from the Tests & Surveys tool to a page in Lessons (beta). For more about Tests & Surveys, see ARCHIVED: Tests & Surveys.

Note: In Lessons (beta), when a student clicks a link to a test using Firefox 24, the test may appear not to load. At the very top of the page, a message that reads "Firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page" will appear. Once the student clicks Allow on the far right, the test will be displayed.

Adding an assessment

To add an existing assessment to a Lessons page, at the top of the Lessons page, click Add Quiz. You'll see a list of assessments already created in the Tests & Surveys tool. Select the one you wish to add, and click Use selected item.

To create or edit a new assessment from within Lessons (beta):

  1. At the top of the Lessons page, click Create new quiz using Tests and Surveys.
  2. Create a new assessment or modify an existing one just as you would in Tests & Surveys. (For more, see ARCHIVED: Creating a new assessment.)
  3. When you're ready to add it to your Lessons page, click Continue with Add Quiz, after you have created the new quiz.
  4. You'll return to the list of assessments; select the item you just created, and then click Use selected item.

Editing an assessment

To set the properties of the test or survey as it pertains to your Lessons page:

  1. Click Edit to the left of the assessment you would like to modify.
  2. In the "Edit Item" box, you can modify any of the following:
    • Item Name: Change the name of the text on the link to your quiz on the main Lessons page.
    • Item Description: Add or change a description of your quiz, which will appear beneath the link to the quiz.
    • Change Quiz: Change the assessment to a different one from Tests & Surveys.
    • Edit Quiz: Open the Tests & Surveys tool to modify this assessment.
    • Edit Quiz Settings: Open the Tests & Surveys tool to change the settings for this assessment.
    • Don't Release Item Until All Prerequisites are Completed: Select this option to make the test available only after previously required items have been completed.
    • Require that the student submit this assessment: Select this option if students must complete this item before progressing in the Lessons plan.
    • Require that the student receive ____ points on this assessment: Select this option to make it necessary to score a certain number of points on the assessment to continue. You can only select this if the item is required.
    • Edit the groups for which this item should be shown: Allows you to make this assessment visible only to certain groups or sections if they are defined for the site. See ARCHIVED: Managing groups.
  3. To save your changes, click Update Item. To remove the assessment from your Lessons page, click Delete.

Note: If your assessment has a retract date, students will be unable to take it after that date unless you remove the retract date, even if it is required to move on to the next item in Lessons (beta). If the test has a due date and does not allow late submissions, then after that date, you must click Allow retake? in the Tests & Surveys tool for each student you want to allow to take the test late. For more about test settings, see ARCHIVED: Assessment settings.
