Digital media streaming

Note:
Effective April 2017, new Digital Streaming Media account creation is suspended. If you currently have an account, you may continue to use it until further notice. IU's Kaltura service is available to IU community members who need a media streaming service.

Digital media streaming is available to all Webserve account holders (www.indiana.edu, www.iupui.edu, www.iun.edu, www.iuk.edu, www.iue.edu). If you do not currently have a Webserve account, see About Webserve accounts

Requests for the digital media streaming service must come from the owner of the account. The server is capable of streaming the latest High Definition (MP4), Flash Video (FLV), and Microsoft Windows Media (WMV) formats. To enable streaming media capabilities for your Webserve account, you must add it via the Webserve account management system.

You will use your Webserve account as the front-end access to the streaming media server. Once you move into your wwwdm directory, you are accessing the streaming media server. To exit out of your wwwdm directory and return to your root directory on Webserve, at the command prompt, type cd.

There is no cost for using streaming service in your Webserve account; however, you should be aware of server space allotments.

For more about streaming media, including hardware and software recommendations and how to create and place content onto the servers, see Collaboration Technologies' Video Streaming pages.

Remove your digital media streaming account from Webserve

Back up your streaming media before deleting the associated Webserve account

Removing your streaming account on Webserve will delete all streaming files hosted there. These files will not be recoverable. Be sure to back up all streaming media files prior to requesting removal of your streaming account. Collaboration Technologies can assist you with this, and also can assist you with moving your streaming media files to Kaltura. Kaltura allows you to add new files, manage old files, and add accessibility like closed captioning.

For more about Kaltura or for assistance moving your files, contact Collaboration Technologies at 812-856-2020 or cthelp@indiana.edu.
