Learning Catalytics is a "bring your own device" student response system (SRS) that enhances student engagement and assessment in the classroom. This system is being piloted at Indiana University during the fall 2015 semester. Students respond to instructor-generated questions with their own Wi-Fi-enabled devices (i.e., smartphone, tablet, or laptop). The platform allows for mathematical, graphical, visual, textual, and numerical questions.

Learning Catalytics helps instructors to:

  • Engage students with open-ended questions to develop critical thinking skills
  • Get students working together
  • Build teamwork and collaboration skills for all students
  • Engage students in person or online, in a flipped or traditional classroom
  • Identify misconceptions and monitor responses to find out where students are struggling
