Zaption, a web application for creating interactive video lessons, allows users to generate interactions directly within a video by adding elements such as questions (multiple choice, open response, numeric, drawing), text, images, discussions, and drawings. Zaption records student scores on each lesson, and features real-time learner analytics, video annotation, and conditional branching.

Zaption is currently in a limited evaluation phase at Indiana University. To learn more, contact eLearning Design and Services.

Accessing Zaption

Instructors

If you are participating in the Zaption evaluation, Canvas administrators will add this tool to your appropriate Canvas course site(s). To access Zaption, always use the link in your Canvas course site. The first time you click the Zaption link, your account will be created.

Students

To access Zaption, you'll select Zaption lessons set up by your instructors in the Canvas Assignments or Modules tool. When you click to start a Zaption lesson, your credentials will be sent to Zaption to track your activity in the lesson.

Using Zaption in Canvas

Instructors

Click the Zaption link in the navigation menu of your Canvas course site. From there, you can add a new lesson, search for existing content, edit an existing lesson, and so on.

Every Zaption lesson is built around one or more videos. When you create a new lesson, you will be prompted to choose a video from a large number of video repositories, including YouTube, Vimeo, and Ted. In addition, all videos to which you have access in Kaltura will appear in a tab labeled IU Library. You may also insert image and text slides into a Zaption lesson.
