Using the Canvas View'em tool, how do I download, edit, publish, unpublish, or delete a worksheet?

Once you have uploaded a file in View'em, you can download, update, publish, unpublish, or delete the worksheet. To make changes to a View'em worksheet, download the original, modify it, and then upload the modified version using the Edit feature as described below.

Downloading a worksheet

Instructors can download View'em worksheets at any time:

  1. Log into Canvas and navigate to your course site.
  2. In the course navigation menu, click View'em.
  3. On the main View'em screen, locate the worksheet you want to download and then, from the gear icon, select Download worksheet.
  4. Save the file to the desired location on your computer or cloud storage service.

Editing a worksheet

In View'em, the Edit feature allows instructors to change the title or publication status of an existing worksheet as well as to upload a new version of the .csv file.

Changing the title or publication status

  1. Log into Canvas and navigate to your course site.
  2. In the course navigation menu, click View'em.
  3. Find the worksheet you want to modify and then, from the gear icon, select Edit.
  4. To change the title, edit the text in the "Worksheet Title" field.
  5. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, and choose one of the following options:
    • To preserve the current published or unpublished status of the worksheet, click Save.
    • To change the worksheet's status, click Save & Unpublish (visible when the current status is published) or Save & Publish (visible when the current status is unpublished).
    • To exit without saving, click Cancel.
    Note:
    You can also change the publication status of any worksheet by clicking the cloud icon in the worksheet list on the main View'em screen. A green cloud with a white checkmark ( Canvas publication status icon, a green cloud with a white checkmark, indicating a file has been published) indicates a published file, while a gray cloud with no checkmark ( Canvas publication status icon, a gray cloud with no checkmark, indicating a file is unpublished) indicates an unpublished file.

Uploading a new .csv file

If you don't have the original .csv file and want to upload a new version, first download the worksheet as described in Downloading a worksheet. Then, edit and upload the file:

  1. Log into Canvas and navigate to your course site.
  2. In the course navigation menu, click View'em.
  3. Find the worksheet you want to modify and then, from the gear icon, select Edit.
  4. At the bottom of the "Edit" screen, click Upload New CSV.
  5. Next to "Select a csv file", click Browse, and then navigate to and select your .csv file.
  6. To save your file and advance to the "Preview" screen, click Submit. To cancel and return to the main View'em screen, click Cancel.
  7. Scroll to the bottom of the screen, and choose one of the following options:
    • To preserve the current published or unpublished status of the worksheet, click Save.
    • To change the worksheet's status, click Save & Unpublish (visible when the current status is published) or Save & Publish (visible when the current status is unpublished).
    • To exit without saving, click Cancel.

Deleting a worksheet

  1. Log into Canvas and navigate to your course site.
  2. In the course navigation menu, click View'em.
  3. Find the file you want to delete and then, from the gear icon, select Delete.
  4. To confirm the deletion, click OK.
