Access Fusion in the STC computing labs

Overview

The steps below explain how to access Fusion in the STC computing labs.

Before you begin

Since Fusion offers access to both a screen reader and magnification, it supports a broad range of people. Below are instructions for accessing Fusion if the primary focus is either using a screen reader or for magnification.

Access Fusion (screen reader)

  1. Initially you will need access to a screen reader until you can start Fusion. On the Windows login screen, press Ctrl-Windows-Enter to launch Narrator.
  2. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to bring up the username and password fields.
  3. Put in your IU username, and then press Tab.
  4. Put in your IU passphrase, and press Enter.
  5. Wait 30 seconds to 1 minute for logging into the workstation.
  6. Press Ctrl-Windows-Enter to launch Narrator.
  7. Press the Windows key, type Fusion 2020, and then press Enter.
  8. Press Ctrl-Windows-Enter to close Narrator.
  9. Next you should see a "Welcome to Fusion: screen with some introductory information. Read it, and then click OK.
  10. If a "Fusion Updates Available" windows appears, select No, and go to the next step.
  11. The Fusion startup wizard window will appear next:
    1. Leave "Enable Fusion in the Windows logon prompt" unchecked.
    2. Leave "Start Fusion automatically when Windows starts" unchecked.
    3. Click Next.
    4. Leave "Enable Fusion Error Reporting" unchecked.
    5. Click Finish.
  12. The JAWS Fusion Startup wizard will appear after that:
    1. On the first screen, leave "Participate" unchecked, and then click Next.
    2. On the speech settings screen, pick your options, and then click Next.
    3. On the "Common Options" screen, pick your settings, and then click Next.
    4. On the "Braille Translation Settings" screen, pick your options, and then click Next.
    5. On the "Braille Settings" screen, pick your options, and then click Finish.
  13. Fusion is now running on the STC workstation.

Access Fusion (magnification)

  1. Initially you may need access to magnification until you can start Fusion. On the Windows login screen, press Windows-+ (plus sign) to launch Magnifier.
    Note:
    Once Magnifier is running, use Windows-+ (plus sign) to increase magnification and Windows-- (minus sign) to decrease magnification.
  2. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to bring up the username and password fields.
  3. Put in your IU username, and then press Tab.
  4. Put in your IU passphrase, and press Enter.
  5. Once you are logged into the workstation, press Windows-+ (plus sign) to launch Magnifier.
  6. Press the Windows key, type Fusion 2020, and press Enter.
  7. Once you see the Fusion splash screen, press Windows-Esc to close Magnifier.
  8. Next you should see a "Welcome to Fusion: screen with some introductory information. Read it, and then click OK.
  9. If a "Fusion Updates Available" windows appears, select No and go to the next step.
  10. The Fusion startup wizard window will appear next:
    1. Leave "Enable Fusion in the Windows logon prompt" unchecked.
    2. Leave "Start Fusion automatically when Windows starts" unchecked.
    3. Click Next.
    4. Leave "Enable Fusion Error Reporting" unchecked.
    5. Click Finish.
  11. The JAWS Fusion Startup wizard will appear after that:
    1. On the first screen, leave "Participate" unchecked, and then click Next.
    2. On the speech settings screen, pick your options, and then click Next.
    3. On the "Common Options" screen, pick your settings, and then click Next.
    4. On the "Braille Translation Settings" screen, pick your options, and then click Next.
    5. On the "Braille Settings" screen, pick your options, and then click Finish.
  12. Fusion is now running on the STC workstation.
