Access JAWS in the STC computing labs
This guide is intended to walk you through the process of accessing JAWS, a screen reader software available in the STC computing labs.
Access JAWS
- Because no screen reading software is running by default when you start working on computers in the STC labs, you will need to open Windows Narrator with
Windows
-Ctrl
-Enter
. - Once Narrator is running, do the following to log in:
- Press
Ctrl
-Alt
-Delete
to get to the login screen. - Enter your username and then press
Tab
. - Enter your password and then press
Enter
.
- Press
- A long pause will occur while your information is loaded, which can take up to 1 minute.
- Narrator will not be running from the desktop screen, so press
Windows
-Ctrl
-Enter
to launch Narrator again. - Press the
Windows
key and typeJAWS
. - When you hear Narrator announce JAWS, press
Enter
. - Once JAWS has loaded successfully, you will hear both screen readers running simultaneously. To shut off Microsoft Narrator, press
Windows
-Ctrl
-Enter
and then the right arrow key until you get to the Exit Narrator button. - Press
Enter
to exit Windows Narrator. - JAWS is now running, and you will be able to use it until logging off the computer.
