About Slack for IU HPC Users

On this page:

Overview

Research Technologies has created a Slack organization called "IU HPC Users" for users of Indiana University research supercomputers. If you have an IU email address, you can join IU HPC Users Slack.

Create an account

To join IU HPC Users Slack and use it to connect with other researchers and Research Technologies staff:

  1. Go to https://iu-hpc-users.slack.com.
  2. At the upper right, under "Don't have an account yet?", select Create an account.
  3. Enter your IU username in the text box and then choose Continue.
  4. You'll receive an email message at the address you entered. To confirm you own that email account, select the button in the message, and you'll be taken to the iu-hpc-users workspace to create a new Slack account.
  5. Enter your full name (not your IU username) and create a password.
    Note:
Do not enter your IU passphrase. This password should be unique to the IU HPC Users Slack space.
  6. Fill in the required information and choose Create Account to log into the IU HPC Users Slack space.

Once you've created your account, there are a variety of channels you can join depending upon your interests.

If you've already created your IU HPC Users Slack account and want to log in:

  1. Go to https://iu-hpc-users.slack.com.
  2. Enter your IU email address as your login name, and enter the password you used when you created your account (not your IU passphrase).

When you join the organization, consider putting your department/discipline information into the last name field, to give more context to other users in the Slack organization.

Change your email address

If you previously signed up with a campus-specific email address (such as indiana.edu or iupui.edu), you can update your email address for this Slack workspace to your iu.edu email address following the instructions at Change your email address.

Important:
Indiana University will be transitioning to a single email domain, iu.edu, between now and the end of 2025. For more about the transition, see One Mail. For actions you may need to take, see Prepare for One Mail at IU.

Channels

The IU HPC Users Slack workspace has channels for each of the research supercomputers, as well as channels for storage systems and other topic-oriented channels.

Research Technologies support in Slack

Staff from Research Technologies are often available in Slack; however, although this space is intended for user support, Research Technologies cannot guarantee response times or the availability of staff in Slack. Research Technologies provides a full suite of support offerings via email and in-person/virtual meetings.
