Use Examity with ALEKS at IU Indianapolis

Overview

Examity is an online proctoring service that online and distance learners can use to take the ALEKS math placement exams at Indiana University Indianapolis without needing to schedule an on-campus visit and proctor.

System requirements

To take a proctored exam using Examity, you'll need the following:

  • A computer (PC, Mac, or Chromebook), a camera, and a microphone. Both built-in and external cameras and microphones are acceptable. To test your webcam, visit https://webcamtests.com/.
  • A location with a sufficient internet connection and at least 2 Mbps upload and download speed. To test your internet speed, visit http://www.speedtest.net.
  • Chrome browser. Examity will run only on Chrome.

Access ALEKS

  1. Navigate to Taking the Math Placement Test (ALEKS).
  2. Select Begin ALEKS.
  3. At the top right of the screen, select LOGIN.
  4. Select GO TO CANVAS COURSE.
  5. On the Canvas course home page, select Start ALEKS Math Placement.
  6. Select Load Start ALEKS Math Placement in a new window.

From the Examity dashboard, you can create or edit your profile; schedule, reschedule, or cancel an exam; or begin an exam.

Important:

UITS recommends that you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the start of an exam. This allows ample time to connect with your proctor and to troubleshoot any technical issues that may arise.

The time it takes you to connect to proctor support and complete the authentication process does not count towards your exam duration.

Notes:
  • You'll need to disable your pop-up blocker to be able to connect with proctor support.
  • If you have issues with the browser extension, your proctor may request keyboard access to manually enter the password.
