In Kaltura, how do I trim a video?

In Kaltura, trimming is not available for any video with captions. Since automatic captions are created by default for all new media, you'll need to remove the captions file before you can trim your video.

To trim a Kaltura video:

  1. Remove the captions file using one of the following methods:
    • Delete the captions file:
      1. In Kaltura, go to Media, and then click Edit.
      2. Select the Captions tab.
      3. Delete the caption file.
      4. Refresh the page, and then, on the Trim tab, make your edits.
    • Create a clip:
      1. Go to Media, and then click Edit.
      2. Select Create Clip.
      3. Make your edits, and then save.

Creating a clip makes a new file, which will have no captions. You can then do further trimming as desired.

  2. In "My Media", click Edit next to the entry you want to trim.
  3. Select the Trim Video tab.
  4. Use the trimming timeline or enter exact start and end times.
  5. Click Trim Video.
  6. After some processing time, the trimmed version of your video will appear in "My Media". Processing time varies depending on the length of the video.

When you've finished trimming your video, you can order new captions; see In Kaltura, how do I order, download, and edit captions or transcripts?
