ARCHIVED: In Oncourse, how can I add someone to my class roster?
UITS no longer supports original Oncourse. For information about Indiana University's current version of Oncourse, see ARCHIVED: What is Oncourse?
Oncourse automatically adds registered students to your class section. This information is added on a nightly basis. To add people (such as assistants or guests) who are not registered students:
- Log into Oncourse and enter your course. For help, see the Knowledge Base document ARCHIVED: For Oncourse, how do I log in?
- At the top of the page, click . Then select .
- Click the button. This will take you to the "Roster Item Editor" form.
- Enter the person's roster information in the form:
- Enter the IU Network ID or Guest account
username in the "Username" field.
- Unless the person is functioning as a student, change the "Role"
field appropriately. If you enter
guest
in the "Role" field, the person will only have Oncourse guest access, i.e., no email privileges. For active participants, a different designation works better.
- Enter the IU Network ID or Guest account
username in the "Username" field.
- Make sure that the radio button next to "Locked" is selected. This will prevent this roster entry from being overwritten when Oncourse data is updated.
- If you would like to give the person authoring privileges, next to
"Author", select
Note: Class members who have authoring privileges can implement any system-level change that instructors can, including:
- Adding new members
- Changing the settings of any or all class members
- Changing syllabus, schedule, or online test items and scores
. This will grant authoring rights
throughout the course.
- Adding new members
- Click to complete the procedure.
Note: If any registered students do not appear in your Oncourse roster because of having invoked privacy rights under FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act), you may not add them manually to the roster without their permission.
