Overview

Box Drive is a desktop application that provides access to your Box content through Windows Explorer and the Mac Finder. Box Drive delivers the same functionality as Box Sync without using up storage on your computer. Box will begin phasing out Box Sync; UITS recommends that all Box Sync users transition to Box Drive as early as possible. For help, see Making the Switch from Box Sync to Box Drive.

• Access files directly through local windows
• Lock files to prevent others from editing while you are
• Copy and/or email shared links directly from your desktop
• Mark individual folders with approved content for offline access (see Making Content Available Offline)
  Important:

  You may use Box Drive to access protected health information (PHI) in Box Health Data Accounts (BHDAs) and Restricted institutional data in Box Entrusted Data Accounts (BEDAs) in online mode only; those folders must not be marked for offline availability.   This UITS system or service meets certain requirements established in the HIPAA Security Rule thereby enabling its use for work involving data that contain protected health information (PHI). However, using this system or service does not fulfill your legal responsibilities for protecting the privacy and security of data that contain PHI. You may use this system or service for work involving data that contain PHI only if you institute additional administrative, physical, and technical safeguards that complement those UITS already has in place.

Install Box Drive

Before installing Box Drive:

• Check the minimum system requirements to confirm your device is capable of supporting Box Drive.
• Uninstall Box Sync; Box Drive and Box Sync cannot operate on the same machine. For instructions, see Making the Switch from Box Sync to Box Drive. You may want to reboot your computer after uninstalling Sync.

To install Box Drive:

1. Download the most recent version of Box Drive.
2. After installation Box Drive will automatically launch and ask for your credentials. Enter your IU email address. Don't enter a password; you'll be redirected to IU Login.

Once setup is complete, you can find Box Drive in the notification area of the Taskbar (Windows) or the upper menu bar (Mac).
