How do I access and download my converted Adobe Connect recordings?

In preparation for the retirement of Adobe Connect, UITS is converting all Connect recordings to MP4 format so you can download and save them locally or migrate them to IU-supported platforms, such as Kaltura or Box. Converted recordings will be available until December 28, 2017; if you need to preserve your Connect recordings, take steps to download them before that date.

Accessing your converted MP4 files

Your MP4 recordings will be located in a folder called MP4 Recordings within the Connect Content folder. The location of the recordings within the Content folder will depend on the location of the original Connect recording.

To access your MP4 recordings:

  1. Log into Adobe Connect with your IU username and passphrase.
  2. Use the following table to find your MP4 recordings:
Original recording location MP4 file location

    Your personal meeting room

Meetings > My Meetings > Meeting Room Name > Recordings

The MP4 Recordings folder under your personal Content folder

Content > My Content > MP4 Recordings > Meeting Room Name > Recording Name

    Your personal content folder

Content > My Content > (if stored at the top level)

    Or

Content > My Content > Folder Name > (if stored in a subfolder)

The MP4 Recordings folder under your personal Content folder

Content > My Content > MP4 Recordings > User Content > Folder Name > Recording Name

    A shared meeting room

Meetings > Shared Meetings > Group Name > Meeting Room Name > Recordings

The MP4 Recordings folder under Shared Content

Content > Shared Content > MP4 Recordings > Shared Meetings > Group Name > Meeting Room Name > Recording Name

    A shared content folder

Content > Shared Content > Group Name > (if stored at the top level)

    Or

Content > Shared Content > Group Name > Folder Name > (if stored in a subfolder)

The MP4 Recordings folder under Shared Content

Content > Shared Content > MP4 Recordings > Shared Content > Group Name > Folder Name (if stored in a subfolder) > Recording Name

    Notes:
    • The majority of recordings will be located in Content > MP4 Recordings.
    • If you don't see the name of a recording in the folder for the meeting room, it hasn't been converted yet.
    • Recordings with passcodes cannot be converted via the automated process.

For help, email Videoconferencing Support or call 812-856-2020.

  3. Navigate to the folder containing your converted recording. For example, if the original Connect recording is located in a personal meeting room:
    1. Go to your personal Content folder.
    2. Select MP4 Recordings.
    3. Open the folder for the meeting room with which the Connect recording is associated.
  4. Click the name of the recording you want to download.
    Note:
If the "Size (KB)" column is empty for the item named "MP4 Source", the recording hasn't been converted yet. Try again at a later time.
  5. Select the file labeled "MP4 source". (Disregard the item called "HTML5 Player: MP4 Source".)
  6. On the "Content Information" screen, next to "Summary:", review the original recording date (1) and the date the recording was last viewed (2) to help you decide whether you want to save the recording:
Screenshot of Adobe Connect's content information screen with cate created and date last viewed highlighted
  7. From the "Content Information" menu bar at the top of the page, select Download Content.
  8. Under "Download output file(s)", right-click the hyperlinked file name, select Save link as, and then enter a meaningful name for your downloaded file (e.g., a name that incorporates the original recording date and the recording name, such as 2016_01_14.ReportByRubricCriteria.mp4).

Repeat these steps to download each recording you want to save for use after the Adobe Connect retirement.

Suggested actions

Testing your converted MP4 files

After you download your files, spot check each one to make sure the recording works as expected. To test your files:

  1. Open the recording.
  2. Make sure the audio and video are in sync and play as expected.
  3. Skip ahead and play at approximately one quarter, one half, and three quarters of the way through the recording, to make sure the audio and video are still working.
  4. If there are significant differences between the original Connect recording and the MP4 recording, email Videoconferencing Support for assistance.

Migrating MP4 files to Kaltura

If you wish to share your recordings with others, upload your MP4 files to the Kaltura video management platform, which provides real-time free mechanical closed captioning and integrates with Canvas. For more, see:

Migrating MP4 files to Box

If you want to save your recordings for later use, you can upload them to your Box at IU account. Do not use Box for recording playback; if you want viewers to watch the recordings, use Kaltura instead. For more, see:
