Request a passphrase reset by mail or fax


Due to the current COVID-19 situation, the Support Center is not accepting passphrase resets by mail.

If you need to reset your personal account's passphrase, contact your campus Support Center.

To request a group account passphrase reset by fax, follow the directions below.

If you are using the IU Fax Service, you must be connected to the Pulse Secure VPN.

If you don't have access to a fax machine and can't send faxes from your computer, you can use the IU Fax Service to send your fax. See Sending a Fax (login required).

Print and complete the Accounts Administration Passphrase Change Form (in PDF format).

If you're unable to print the form, use a clean sheet of white paper to create your own; include all of the following information:

  • The current date
  • Your full name (last, first, and middle initial)
  • Your 10-digit University ID number
  • Your request for a passphrase reset
  • Your IU username (or, for a group account reset request, the group account username)
  • Your telephone number (including area code)
  • Your alternative (non-IU) email address
  • Your home address on record (or, for a group account reset request, your office address)
  • Your mailing address (omit for group account reset requests)
  • Your signature

This information may be used for verification purposes. Fax your passphrase reset request to:

Fax: 812-855-0354 (Attention: Tier 2 Accounts Administration)

Your request will be processed within two business days of its receipt by Tier 2 Accounts Administration. Your new group account passphrase will sent to your personal IU email account via Slashtmp. Be sure to delete the Slashtmp file after you've changed the passphrase.
