ARCHIVED: At IU, how do I install ERDAS IMAGINE 2014?
The installation of ERDAS IMAGINE 2014 is a multi-step process. ERDAS Foundation 2014, a component bundle used in all ERDAS products, must be installed prior to installing ERDAS IMAGINE 2014. ERDAS Foundation 2014 includes Intergraph Licensing, which is used across the ERDAS product lines. You must have full administrative privileges in Windows to install a license file or add remote license servers. Departments, faculty, and staff must ARCHIVED: purchase ERDAS IMAGINE licenses. UITS provides free, node-locked licenses to students for academic purposes only.
LPS 2014 is included with IMAGINE 2014.
To install ERDAS IMAGINE 2014, perform the following steps in order:
- Uninstall previous versions of ERDAS IMAGINE.
- Install ERDAS Foundation 2014.
- Connect to a license service:
- Install ERDAS IMAGINE 2014 application and update.
- Install ERDAS IMAGINE and LPS 2014 Example Data.
Uninstall previous versions of ERDAS IMAGINE
- From the menu, click , and then launch the .
- Remove each item in the list, starting with the last installed item.
- Reboot the system after removing the last item.
Install ERDAS Foundation 2014
- Download ERDAS Foundation 2014 from IUware and save it to your computer.
- Unpack the
.zip
archive to a destination folder. - To launch the installer, double-click the file in the destination folder.
- Complete the installation process.
Connect to a license service
UITS-managed ERDAS central license service for use on the IU network
UITS recommends that you use the UITS ERDAS license servers if your system is connected to the IU network. If your system has infrequent access to the IU network, you will need to use a local license solution; skip to Local license for laptop or home computer.
- If your computer is off campus, first connect to the IU VPN.
- To permit license checkout, the ERDAS license server must have the hostname of all systems using the service. Contact UITS GIS, noting "ERDAS Central License Server hostname update", and include your computer's hostname, your hostname, and your IU department name. Use your IU email address; UITS staff will deny requests from non-IU email addresses. The license service is case sensitive, so carefully review your system's hostname before sending it. For example, if your hostname is
home-pc
, the server will deny license checkout to systemHOME-pc
. - To open the Intergraph License Administration application, click , select , and then choose .
- In the Intergraph License Administration application, select the menu.
- In the "Add Concurrent License Source" window, in the "Computer Name:" field, type
erdas1.uits.indiana.edu
. Next to "Port Number:", type27000
. Click . Repeat the process addingerdas2.uits.indiana.edu
. - To display license availability, highlight the name of the server in the "Table of Contents" on the left. After you have successfully connected to the remote license service, exit Intergraph License Administration and begin installing ERDAS IMAGINE 2014.
Local license for laptop or home computer
- To open the Intergraph License Administration application, click , select , and then choose .
- In the Intergraph License Administration application, select the menu.
- Copy the Composite ID, and send this code and your IU department name to UITS GIS, noting "ERDAS 2014 license request". Use your IU email address; UITS staff will deny requests from non-IU email addresses.
- When you receive the license file (which has a
.lic
extension) by email, save it to your computer and follow the instructions provided by ERDAS.
Install the ERDAS IMAGINE 2014 application and update
- Download IMAGINE 2014 from IUware and save it to your computer.
- Unpack the
.zip
archive to a destination folder. - To launch the installer, double-click the file in the destination folder.
- Complete the installation process.
- Download and install any software fixes from IUware.
Install ERDAS IMAGINE Example Data
Download ERDAS IMAGINE Example Data from IUware, save it to your computer, and then copy it to a folder of your choice.
