At Indiana University, ImgBurn is available on any Windows Student Technology Center (STC) workstation with a CD-RW or DVD-RW drive. For locations, see:

To burn data to a CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, or DVD-RW using ImgBurn, UITS recommends that you begin by saving your files to your desktop. This will eliminate the risk of network errors or latency causing data corruption while ImgBurn writes the files to your CD.

Once you've saved your files to the desktop, insert a CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R, or DVD-RW in your computer's CD-RW or DVD-RW drive, and then:

  1. To start ImgBurn, click Start, then All Programs, then Multimedia, and then ImgBurn.
  2. In the What would you like to do? dialog box, select Write files/folders to disc.

ImgBurn's compilation window should open. On the left will be the Source window, which shows the files and directories queued to burn to the disc. On the right will be tabs displaying CD or DVD labels and advanced options.

  3. On the right edge of the Source window, click the file with a magnifying glass to add a single file, or the folder with a magnifying glass to add a directory. You can also drag and drop files and directories onto this list.
  4. Once the right window is populated with the files you want to burn to CD or DVD, click the large Build icon (a folder with an arrow pointing to a disc) on the lower left. You may also select File... Write.
  5. If you did not change the label of the disc, ImgBurn will automatically select a default name. To change the name, fill out the fields in the dialog box. Once you are finished, click Yes.

The burning process will begin. It may take several minutes to complete, depending upon how much data you're transferring to your CD or DVD.

Afterward, your workstation's CD or DVD tray should open and close automatically and the program will verify that all data burned successfully. After verification, the tray will open again, a dialog will appear on the screen stating whether the burn was successful, and your disc can be removed.
