ARCHIVED: Troubleshooting your OTP token
Below are some potential problems new users may have using an OTP (One Time Password) token:
- My OTP password works for one system, but not for
another.
If you attempt to log into multiple systems with OTP authentication, you should wait several seconds between them. OTP tokens only generate a new password every 32 seconds, and each password is only good for one login. This means that, if you were to attempt to log into a second OTP-authenticated system immediately after the first, your token would return the same password, which would not be valid for the second login.
- I cannot read the display on my OTP token.
New tokens ship from the factory with a protective plastic film over the display; until that film is removed, the password display will be somewhat obscured. If you have already removed the protective coating and suspect that your OTP token is defective, contact your departmental IT Pro for help with exchanging your token.
- I am having problems with my OTP token. How can I test
it?
In One.IU, you can test your token by clicking OTP token. This can help you determine if the problem is your token, your PIN, or the authenticating system. See ARCHIVED: At IU, how do I activate my OTP token?
