Turnitin's GradeMark tool facilitates online marking of student writing. At Indiana University, most of the GradeMark options are available through Canvas and Oncourse, as well as directly from Turnitin.

Note: In Oncourse, students will not be able to view comments until after the due date for the assignment; in Canvas, they do not need to wait to see them. For more about the integration between Turnitin and Oncourse, see ARCHIVED: Oncourse Turnitin integration: Overview.

GradeMark offers the following features:

  • Pre-defined features:
    • Drag-and-drop battery of pre-defined tags, such as "comma splice" or "weak transition"
    • Definition and discussion, with examples, for each of these pre-defined error tags
  • Instructor-designed features:
    • Insert written comments into the student paper
    • Record voice comments (up to three minutes)
    • Customize tags to drag and drop
    • Create custom definitions and discussions for tags
    • Design a customized rubric for each assignment (not available in Oncourse)

For more, see:

Note: Canvas also allows for some on-screen commenting on student work using the Crocodoc interface in SpeedGrader; see How do I use Crocodoc in the SpeedGrader?

Instructors can get help using technology in their teaching at the teaching and learning centers on each campus.
