Upload media to Kaltura MediaSpace

You and your students can use Kaltura MediaSpace to upload videos and other types of media, organize media into channels and playlists, and then share media and media collections via links and embed codes.

For more detailed information on using MediaSpace, see the Kaltura MediaSpace User Manual. To learn about the Kaltura service at Indiana University, see About Kaltura.

To upload media to Kaltura MediaSpace:

  1. Go to https://iu.mediaspace.kaltura.com.
  2. At the upper right, click Guest and select Login from the drop-down menu. If prompted, enter your IU username and passphrase.
  3. At the upper right, from the Add New menu, choose Upload Media.
  4. Click Choose a file to upload.
  5. Browse for and select the video you want to upload. MediaSpace will show the progress of the upload.
  6. Review the name of your file, and edit it if you wish. You may also add an optional description and keywords (that is, tags).
  7. Choose one of the following three publishing options:
    • Private: Select this option if you are not ready to share the video with other MediaSpace users.
    • Unlisted: Select this option to prevent other users from finding your video in MediaSpace. You can share the video with others via the link or embed code, but it will not show up in search results.
    • Published: Select this option to publish your video to one or more categories or channels. Anyone with permission to view the selected categories or channels will be able to play your video; for more, see Work with channels in Kaltura MediaSpace.
  8. To save your file, choose one of the following options:
    • Save: Choose this option to save your data and stay on the same page, so you can upload another video.
    • Go to Media: Choose this option to view the file you just uploaded.
    • Go to My Media: Choose this option to go to your personal media collection.

Once a video is uploaded, Kaltura will analyze it to automatically provide closed captions and tag the video. The video's owner can remove these tags if desired.
