Ordering deadlines for IU eTexts

Overview

Ordering periods for the IU eTexts Order Tool begin on September 2 and February 2 every year to allow faculty to order digital course materials for upcoming terms through the IU eTexts initiative.

Ordering periods close the day before the first day of registration for each term. For specific campus deadlines by term, see the other sections of this document.

Note:
  • Faculty and coordinators will not see all classes in the IU eTexts Order Tool until all campuses, schools, departments, and programs have finished editing the Schedule of Classes for the upcoming term.
  • When an ordering period closes, the IU eTexts Order Tool is no longer available to faculty and coordinators. To place post-deadline orders, follow the procedure in Post-Deadline Ordering.

Winter 2023

The IU eTexts Order Tool opens on September 2, 2023 and closes at 8:00pm (ET) on the day of the deadline noted below:

  • Bloomington (GRD1): October 8, 2023
  • Indianapolis (GRD1): October 8, 2023

Post Deadline Ordering

The deadline to make a change to an order is noon (ET), on October 13, 2023.

eTexts titles ordered on time will be loaded to Canvas by October 23, 2023. Publisher courseware and other digital tools will be provisioned in the weeks following this date.

Spring 2024

The IU eTexts Tool opens on September 2, 2023 and closes at 8pm (ET) on the deadline day listed below:

  • IUB: October 18, 2023
  • IUB (GRD1): January 14, 2024
  • IUPUI: October 29, 2023
  • IUPUI (GRD1): January 7, 2024
  • IU East: October 29, 2023
  • IU Kokomo: October 29, 2023
  • IU Northwest: October 29, 2023
  • IU South Bend: October 29, 2023
  • IU Southeast: October 29, 2023
  • IUPUC: October 29, 2023
  • IU Fort Wayne: October 22, 2023

Post-Deadline Ordering

The deadline to make a change to an order will be noon (ET) on November 17, 2023 (January 5, 2024 for GRAD 1 classes).

eText titles ordered on time will be loaded to Canvas by November 27, 2023 (January 15, 2023 for GRD1 classes). Publisher courseware and other digital tools will be provisioned in the weeks following this date.

Summer 2024

The IU eTexts Order Tool opens on February 2, 2024 and closes on 8pm (ET) on the day of the deadline listed below:

  • IUB*: March 20, 2024
  • IUB (GRD1): April 14, 2024
  • IUPUI*: March 20, 2024
  • IUPUI (GRD1): April 7, 2024
  • IU East*: March 20, 2024
  • IU Kokomo*: March 20, 2024
  • IU Northwest*: March 20, 2024
  • IU South Bend*: March 20, 2024
  • IU Southeast*: March 20, 2024
  • IUPUC*: March 20, 2024
  • IU Fort Wayne*: March 20, 2024

Post Deadline Ordering

The deadline to make a change to an order is noon (ET), April 4, 2024. (April 4, 2024 for GRD1 classes.)

eTexts titles ordered on time will be loaded to Canvas by April 8, 2024. (April 8, 2024 for GRD1 classes.) Publisher courseware and other digital tools will be provisioned in the weeks following April 8, 2024.

Note:

Some campuses choose to enroll students for summer during the preceding fall term instead of the spring term. At this time, the IU eTexts Order Tool and IU's publisher/vendor agreements are not capable of supporting that choice. Orders for these campuses may only be submitted during the timeline noted above. This means that if students have already enrolled, these will be considered late orders. Faculty, programs, departments, or schools must assume the responsibility to contact all enrolled students to explain the late addition of a charge for the class. UITS recommends waiting for two overnight refreshes after submitting an order before contacting the enrolled students, so you don't miss any.

An alternative and easier approach is to add a Class Note; for example:

The instructor of this class will be teaching with IU eTexts. Details of the specific title and price will be posted to the Schedule of Classes in February/March.

Fall 2024

The IU eTexts Order Tool opens on February 2, 2024 and closes on 8pm (ET) on the deadline day noted below:

  • IUB: March 24, 2024
  • IUB (GRD1): July 7, 2024
  • IUPUI: March 24, 2024
  • IUPUI (GRD1): July 7, 2024
  • IU East: March 24, 2024
  • IU Kokomo: March 24, 2024
  • IU Northwest: March 24, 2024
  • IU South Bend: March 24, 2024
  • IU Southeast: March 24, 2024
  • IUPUC: March 24, 2024
  • IU Fort Wayne: March 24, 2024

Post Deadline Ordering

The deadline to make a change to an order is noon (ET), July 12, 2024.

eTexts titles ordered on time will be loaded to Canvas by July 22, 2024.
