Request remediation of a PDF or EPUB using Ally in a Canvas course for students with accommodations

Overview
This guide is intended to help you with requesting remediation of a PDF or EPUB in your Canvas course. If you download a PDF or EPUB from your Canvas course and determine that your assistive technology has issues reading the content, you can request the PDF or EPUB be remediated. Some examples of reading issues are:
- Reading out of order
- Not reading sections of text in the document
- Missing page numbers
- Unlabeled images
Before you begin
Requesting remediation of a PDF or EPUB is intended for students who have accommodations through a campus Accessible Educational Services (AES) office.
Request PDF or EPUB remediation
- Open a browser and log into Canvas.
- Complete the Two-Step Login (Duo) authentication.
- Go to the course and the specific page where the PDF or EPUB is located.
- To the right of the file should be a download icon (arrow facing down with a dipped line under it) called the button.
- Select the button. From the menu that appears, select .
- From the "Download alternative formats" window, select the button.
- The "Help" window appears now.
- Under the "Describe your question or issue" heading, go down to the "Describe your question or issue" text box.
- In the text box type in the following:

- Select the button.
- The window will update to say that your email was successfully sent.
- Select the button.
Expected turnaround for requests
Requests for remediation are generally returned within two weeks. If the content requires longer to be processed, you will be notified.
