ARCHIVED: At IU, in Eudora for Mac OS X, how do I read my Cyrus or IU Exchange email using IMAP?
To follow the steps below, you must be using Mac OS X 10.2 or later. To access Cyrus, you must have Eudora 6.2 or later.
To configure Eudora in Mac OS X to read your Cyrus or IU Exchange mail at IU using IMAP:
- Start Eudora. From the
Settings
window may appear automatically. If so, skip to the third step. menu, select
. If you're running Eudora for the first
time, the - On the left side of the
Settings
window, in the list of settings categories, click the icon. - On the right side of the window, in the "Username:" field, enter
your IU Network ID username (e.g.,
dvader
). - Next to "Mail Server:", enter the address for your IMAP server:
To access your Exchange account, enter
imap.exchange.iu.edu
.
- In the "Real Name:" field, enter your name.

In the "Outgoing" or "SMTP" server field, type:
mail-relay.iu.edu
- Under "Return Address", enter your full IU email address.
If you are unsure of your exact IU email address, see Your IU email address.
- On the left side of the window, click the icon for the settings category. Then, on the right side of the window, next to "Mail Protocol:", click .
- Leave the "Location Prefix:" field blank.
Note: If you have trouble receiving Cyrus mail after configuring your account with these instructions, try putting
""
(double quotes) in this field. - On the left side of the window, scroll through the list of settings categories, and then click the icon.
- On the right side of the window, for both the pull-down menu next to "SSL for SMTP:" and the one for "SSL for IMAP:", select . Click .
