Overview
The Indiana University Alumni Email Service, available to anyone with an active IU Alumni Association (IUAA) membership, is one benefit of joining the IUAA. An alumni email account lets you continue to use an IU-sponsored email address while helping you stay engaged with IU.
Until recently, alumni email accounts were managed with Microsoft's Office 365 service. Gmail via Google's G Suite for Education is being evaluated as a replacement service, and during the evaluation period, all new alumni email accounts are being created in G Suite.
The ability to migrate an Office 365 account to a G Suite account will be available in the future.
If you opt in to the New Grad IUAA membership, your alumni email address will be activated a few months after you graduate. You'll receive an email notification from the IUAA informing you that your membership is active, with instructions for setting up an alumni email account.
At present, if your IUAA membership expires, your alumni email account will remain active. In the future, your alumni email account will be tied to the status of your IUAA membership, which you can keep active via a once-a-year process. If you sign up for an alumni email account, you may receive more email messages from the university than you do currently, but the IUAA honors requests to limit communications and solicitations.
Your email address
If you wish, you can use your IU student username as your alumni email username. If you don't remember your IU username, or didn't have one, you can generate a new one; you can also request an alias if a life event requires a change of username.

To request an alumni email account, complete the Alumni Association Help form.
Access your account
When you sign up for an alumni email address, you'll receive an email message at your alternate email address with instructions for accessing the alumni email service. For help, email crmson@iu.edu

- Access an Office 365 account: If you have an Office 365 email address, go to https://portal.office.com, and then enter your username and password.
- Access a Gmail account: If you have a Gmail address, go to http://mail.alumni.iu.edu, and then enter your username and password.

Change your alumni email username
If a life event requires a change to your username, you can request an alias.
- For an Office 365 email address: To change your alumni email username on an Office 365 email address, email

Email forwarding is an option with the Alumni Email Service. Whether your account is in Office 365 or G Suite, search the Help topics for instructions about email forwarding.
Transfer your content to your alumni email account
To move content from your student Gmail account to the Alumni G Suite, see the instructions for students.
IU email accounts are not accessible after they've been inactivated, which happens two semesters after you graduate (including summer term). If your account is inactive, you cannot retrieve messages from your IU email account. However, if your IU email account is still active, you can forward that email to another account; for instructions, see ARCHIVED: Forward your IU email.
Set your IU email address to deliver to your IUAA email account
Your Alumni Gmail email address is username@alumni.iu.edu
. If you would like to continue using your campus email address (for example, username@iupui.edu
, username@indiana.edu
) and/or your username@iu.edu
address after you graduate, you can change your mail forwarding settings so that mail sent to these addresses is delivered to your Alumni Gmail inbox. UITS encourages you to set your forwarding to go to your alumni account, as mail will not be delivered to your student email account (Gmail at IU) indefinitely. To adjust your mail delivery settings, go to Email Management.
