ARCHIVED: About the Pexip Web App

Important:

UITS Collaboration Technologies retired the "23" video bridge (Pexip) on December 23, 2019. This includes all conferences that begin with the prefix 23- as well as the bridge.iu.edu and uits.iu.edu/bridge sites. Zoom has replaced the Pexip videoconferencing service; for more about moving your virtual meetings to Zoom, see Get started with Zoom.

While it is not possible to migrate a 23- conference number to the Zoom service, you can customize your Zoom Personal Meeting ID; for more, see What is Personal Meeting ID (PMI) and Personal Link?

Overview

The Pexip Web App allows you to join a conference on the IU Video Bridge from your Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox browser. You can use the Web App to make a video call to any IU Video Bridge conference.

Supported web browsers

The following browsers support Pexip in the Windows, Mac, Linux, and Android operating systems:

  • Google Chrome (recommended for the best conference experience)
  • Mozilla Firefox

Additional requirements

Connect to a conference

Note for first-time users:
The first time you use the Pexip Web App to join a videoconference, your browser will prompt you to choose whether you want to allow bridge.iu.edu to use your local device's camera and microphone. In Chrome, click Allow. In Firefox, click Share Selected Devices.

To connect to a conference using the Pexip Web App:

  1. Using Chrome (recommended) or Firefox, go to https://bridge.iu.edu/webapp2/.
  2. Verify that your default local devices are working properly:
    • Camera: You should see video from your camera; if you do not, use the ... settings icon to choose another camera.
    • Microphone: The audio meter (a gray or green bar between camera preview and name) should move when you speak; if it does not, use the ... settings icon to select another microphone.
    • Speakers: At the bottom left of the camera preview, click the speaker icon to test audio output. You will hear a tone when you select a working audio device.
  3. In the "Enter your name" field, type your name or other identifier.
  4. Choose a connection type from the three options at the bottom of the page. Left to right, they are:
    • Content: Shared content (screen share) with no audio or video
    • Video: Standard connection with audio, video, and content
    • Voice: Audio and content, but no video
  5. In the "Search to call" field, type your conference number and press Enter, or click a saved conference from your "Favorites" or "Recents" list.

To add a conference to your "Favorites" list:

    1. Click + (plus sign).
    2. In the "Alias" field, enter the conference number.
    3. In the "Name" field, enter any name you wish.
    4. Click the check mark icon.
  6. You are now connected to the conference.

If the conference you join is protected with a PIN, you will be prompted to enter it. If you are not the host, click Join. Non-hosts will be held until a host joins the meeting.
