Use the IU Groups VPN with IU Sitehosting

To use an SFTP client to connect to an IU Sitehosting server from your personal computer, you must first establish an IU Groups VPN connection.

To use the IU Groups VPN with IU Sitehosting:

  1. Make sure the Pulse Secure client is installed on your workstation. For installation instructions, see Connect to the VPN.
  2. Open the Pulse Secure client. Click the + (plus sign) in the upper right corner of the window to add a connection.

    Add connection

  3. Add a connection:
    1. In the "Name" field, enter a name that you will remember that indicates the connection is for the IU Groups VPN.
    2. In the "Server URL" field, enter https://vpn.iu.edu/groups.
    3. Click Connect to initiate the connection. This will also save the connection in the Pulse Secure client so you can reuse it.

      Add connection

  4. Enter your credentials.
    1. In the "User Name" field, enter your personal IU account name.
    2. In the "Password" field, enter your passphrase.
    3. Click Connect.

      Enter credentials

  5. Obtain and enter your secondary password. For instructions on how to use Two-Step Login, see About Two-Step Login (Duo) at IU.
    1. Use a Duo client to obtain a secondary password.
    2. Enter the secondary password.
    3. Alternatively, type push in the "Secondary Password" textbox to initiate a push request to your Duo-enabled smart device.
    4. Click Connect.

      Enter secondary password

  6. Select a role. If you belong to multiple VPN groups, then you will be presented a list to choose from. If you only belong to one VPN group, then this step will be skipped.
    1. Select Groups 3833 (IU-Linux-Hosting-Users).
    2. Click Connect.

      Select role

  7. You should now be connected to the Groups VPN and have access to the IU Sitehosting servers.
