Known issues with Microsoft Teams

Teams Calls provides office telephone service for faculty and staff at Indiana University.

Following is continually updated information about the status of known issues with Microsoft Teams at IU, including Teams Calls.

Issue Description Workaround Last updated
Accounts with an A1 license are unable to set meetings to automatically record
The Record and Transcribe automatically button is not present for A1 accounts. A1 accounts will need to manually start meeting recordings and transcription. This is true for personal meetings or channel meetings.
This behavior is by design; accounts with an A5 license do not have this issue.

MP50 phone not fully compatible with new Teams client
The phone works as a USB device, but it displays the wrong date and time, and it shows PC Softphone instead of user.

When trying to choose options on a phone menu, the dial pad of MP50 and touch display may not work; use dial pad on client instead. UITS is waiting on a firmware update from the vendor.

Inability to dial or end a call using the Yealink MP50 phone
If the Skype for Business app is running on your computer, the phone may not respond when using the dial pad, when the handset is replaced, or when choosing the End Call screen option.
Completely exit the Skype for Business app. You may also need to disable Skype for Business in your list of startup apps to prevent it from launching automatically when Windows launches.

Users are unable to download Microsoft's Teams client for Linux; previous downloads no longer work.
Linux users can use the web version of Teams to receive incoming calls or make PC-to-PC calls. If you use Linux and need to dial outbound calls by number, use a mobile app, or request an IP phone from your department.

Loud or persistent dial tone after Skype for Business call or meeting is completed.
Interaction between Teams and Skype for Business may cause Skype for Business users to hear a persistent dial tone or off-hook sound even after their call or meeting is completed. Microsoft is working on a Teams update which will likely solve this problem.
Exit and then restart Skype for Business and/or the Teams app, or restart the computer. This issue should no longer occur when all call or meeting participants are converted to Teams Calls.

No dial tone and difficulties with call control on CX300 USB phones with Teams Calls on Windows
Users on Teams Calls with newer Dell Latitude laptops and CX300 phones may experience the following:
  • No dial tone
  • Dial pad on the CX300 phone does not work
  • Answering and ending calls with the phone does not work (these must be done from the Teams app)
To restore call control, disable the Intel Smart Sound Technology driver:
  1. Run Windows updates.
  2. In the Device manager, choose Sound, video and game controllers.
  3. Right-click Intell Smart Sound Technology/Intel SST, and choose Disable device.
  4. Unplug the phone, and restart the computer.
  5. Plug the phone back in.
For some steps, admin permissions may be necessary.

This will allow you to use the Dial pad (dialing will start after a 4-5 second delay) and Speakerphone button, and to answer and end the call with the handset; however, you'll still hear no dial tone.

An alternative USB phone (Yealink MP50) is available; see About office telephone equipment at IU.
