ARCHIVED: How do I download, install, and use the IU Printer Finder?

This content has been archived, and is no longer maintained by Indiana University. Information here may no longer be accurate, and links may no longer be available or reliable.
Note:
The former tool, the IU Printer Finder, was retired August 10, 2016, and no longer works. If you used the Printer Finder, you should uninstall it from your computer, and use the new BYOD software instead.
Note:
IU Print won't work if you're connected to AT&T Wi-Fi. Before you can print, you must first connect to IU Secure or the wired IU network.

Windows

Note: The IU Printer Finder utility for Windows will work only with Windows 8.x, 7, and Vista computers at IUB and IUPUI.

Downloading and installing

  1. Visit IUware. Log in if needed, and then click Download.
  2. To install the utility, click Run. Alternatively, to download the files to install at a later time, click Save.

If you saved the files for a later installation, or if the utility doesn't automatically install:

  1. In Windows 8.x, press Win-e. In the left column of the resulting window, right-click Computer or This PC. In Windows 7 and earlier, from the Start menu, right-click Computer.
  2. Double-click Local Disk (C:).
  3. Double-click the IUware Online folder, and then double-click the IU Printer Finder folder.
  4. To install the utility, double-click PrinterFinderInstaller.

Using the Printer Finder

To launch the Printer Finder, double-click its desktop icon. Alternatively, from the Start screen or Start menu, select All Programs or Programs, then Indiana University, and then IU Printer Finder.

To configure your computer to print to an IU Print printer:

  1. Select the IU Print tab.
  2. Under "Campus", select your campus.
  3. Under "Available Printers", select the desired printer, and then click Add Printer. The printer will now be available in the program from which you want to print.
  4. Check Remember my credentials for this printer to have Windows connect to the printer automatically when your computer is on the IU network. For more about this option, see Saving your credentials, below.

To configure your computer to print to a non-IU Print printer:

  1. Select the Browse tab.
  2. Under "Campus", select your campus.
  3. Under "Building:", select your building.
  4. Under "Available Printers", select the desired printer, and then click Add Printer. The printer will now be available in the program from which you want to print.
  5. Check Remember my credentials for this printer to have Windows connect to the printer automatically when your computer is on the IU network. For more about this option, see Saving your credentials, below.

Saving your credentials

Check Remember my credentials for this printer to have Windows connect to your printer automatically when your computer is on the IU network.

If you choose to save your credentials, you should not have to re-run the Printer Finder to reconnect to your printer. If you choose not to save your credentials, you'll need to run the Printer Finder again if you want to reconnect to your printer at a later time.

The Printer Finder stores your credentials in Windows' secure Credential Manager. If your credentials change, you'll need to run the Printer Finder again to update them. Alternatively, you can update your credentials directly in the Windows Credential Manager.

If you run the Printer Finder from a domain account, you will not see the option to store your credentials. Domain users can reconnect to network printers without storing their credentials locally.
