UITS has moved all Shakespeare and Jewel mailboxes to the new Cyrus mail system as of June 1, 2005. This change affects users of IU Webmail.
This document contains information that will be useful for handling your mail in the new system.
Accessing your mail
- If you use IU Webmail, you should be able to access your new
mailbox in the same way you always have.
Note: The ARCHIVED: In Cyrus mail, how do I set up a vacation message?, ARCHIVED: In Cyrus mail, how do I set up or remove forwarding?, and ARCHIVED: At IU, how can I filter my incoming Cyrus mail?
button works differently in the new system. Also, in September 2005, the button was replaced with a button. For more information, see the Knowledge Base documents - If you use desktop software (such as Outlook Express or Eudora) to access your mail, you need to change a setting in your mail software so that it will work with the new system.
- The new mail environment does not include a centralized Pine service; the Pine client on Shakespeare and Jewel can no longer access your mail. Access is via IU Webmail or a desktop client. For a list of available clients, see the Knowledge Base document ARCHIVED: Reading your Cyrus mail using a desktop client.
Other things you need to know
- If you have a forward set up on your account (to direct your mail to another account), that forward was copied to Cyrus mail. The forwarding and vacation mail features work differently in Cyrus; for more information, see the Knowledge Base documents ARCHIVED: In Cyrus mail, how do I set up or remove forwarding? and ARCHIVED: In Cyrus mail, how do I set up a vacation message?
- The default quota on the new system is 100MB.
- Mail addressed directly to your old Shakespeare or Jewel node
(e.g.,
username@iago.ucs.indiana.edu
orusername@jade.iupui.edu
) was delivered to your new mailbox for six months after the migration to the new system. Any mail addressed to an old node name is now being bounced back to the sender, with instructions to visit http://people.iu.edu to look up the correct address. Make sure your correspondents have your current address. For more information, see the Knowledge Base document Your IU email address - If you have multiple mailboxes, they were consolidated when your mail was moved. Because of the way that mailbox moves were processed, your IU Bloomington mailbox became your primary box and any other inboxes became subfolders.
- If you had Procmail filters set up on your Shakespeare or Jewel account, these likely were not copied to the new system. If this is the case, you should have received a message from the UITS Support Center indicating that your filters were not moved. The message included a text summary of your filters, so that you may manually recreate them in Cyrus mail. For help, see the Knowledge Base document ARCHIVED: At IU, how can I filter my incoming Cyrus mail?
- UITS did not move files (such as attachments) that you may have saved on your Shakespeare or Jewel account, only your mailbox content (email messages and folders).
