ARCHIVED: At IU, in Outlook 2007, how do I read my Cyrus or Exchange email using IMAP?
When you launch Outlook 2007 for the first time, you will be prompted for your email account settings. To connect to your Indiana University Cyrus or Exchange account using IMAP, follow the steps below.
Note: If you primarily use Outlook on campus or over a VPN and you would like to connect with full Exchange functionality, see ARCHIVED: Set up Outlook for Windows to access your IU Exchange account
- When you first launch Outlook 2007, you may be prompted to create
a new profile. Enter a name for this profile (e.g.,
Imap
) and click . - In the
Auto Account Setup
window, enter your full name, your email address, and your IU Network ID passphrase. Then check the box next to and click .If you are unsure of your exact IU email address, see Your IU email address.
- In the
Choose E-Mail Service
window, choose and click . - In the
Internet E-mail Settings
window:- Under "User Information", enter your full name and your email address.
- Under "Server Information", from the "Account Type" drop-down menu, choose .
- Next to "Incoming mail server", enter the name of your
IMAP server:
To access your Exchange account, enter
imap.exchange.iu.edu

In the "Outgoing" or "SMTP" server field, type:
mail-relay.iu.edu
- Under "Logon Information", enter your IU Network ID. Do not check the box next to . Click .
- On the tab, check the box labeled .
- On the SMTP). Next to "Outgoing server (SMTP):", change the port number from 25 to 465. tab, choose from the drop-down menus next to "Use the following type of encrypted connection:" for both your incoming server (IMAP) and your outgoing server (
- Click , then , and then .
If you have folders in IU Webmail that don't appear in Outlook:
- After following the steps above and making sure Outlook can download messages from your Inbox, go to the menu and choose .
- Click the button.
- Click each folder you would like to access and click the button. A folder icon will appear after each folder you subscribe to.
- When you're finished, click at the bottom of the screen.
