Getting started with REDCap at IU

Research Electronic Data Capture (REDCap) is an easy-to-use, secure, web-based database management tool for capturing, using, and sharing research data. REDCap provides a streamlined process for rapidly developing projects, allowing you to create and design online surveys and databases (or a mix of both) in two ways:

  • Online: Use the Online Designer from your web browser.
  • Offline: Construct a "data dictionary" template file in Microsoft Excel, and then upload it to REDCap.

At Indiana University, REDCap is one of several research-related collaboration tools offered by the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (Indiana CTSI). IU's REDCap implementation is sponsored by the Advanced Biomedical IT Core (ABITC) and the IU School of Medicine Department of Biostatistics. REDCap, originally developed by Vanderbilt University, is available to IU researchers as a result of IU's partnership in the REDCap Consortium.
