Configure Exchange Online with Android

Follow these instructions to configure your device if you've been migrated to Exchange Online. If you haven't yet been migrated, see Connect to your Exchange account with Android.

Microsoft Exchange Online is a hosted messaging solution that delivers the capabilities of Microsoft Exchange Server as a cloud-based service, allowing you to access email, calendar, contacts, and tasks from your personal computer, the web, and mobile devices. Exchange Online integrates fully with Active Directory, enabling administrators to use group policies and other administration tools to manage its features across their environment. Though hosted by Microsoft, Exchange Online is still managed by the IU Exchange administrators and meets the same security and privacy guidelines as traditional, on-premises Exchange.

Exchange Online does not support IMAP. If you are a Linux user, UITS recommends that you use the Evolution client.

To set up your Exchange Online account on your Android device:

  1. Go to Settings, and then Accounts, Users and Accounts, or Accounts and Sync.
  2. Choose Add account.
  3. Select Exchange, Exchange ActiveSync, Microsoft exchange, Corporate, or Outlook.
If you have a Gmail at IU account added to your phone and your IU email address ends, you may not be able to add your Exchange account to the Gmail app.
  4. When prompted, enter your email address and your IU passphrase. If prompted, sign into IU Login with your IU username and passphrase.
  5. If prompted to allow device permissions, choose Accept.
  6. If prompted, choose your selected sync options.
