Configure Exchange Online with Android

Overview

Note:
Microsoft recommends using the Outlook app on iOS and Android for better integration with the Exchange Online environment.
At IU, Exchange Online allows you to access email, calendar, contacts, and tasks from your personal computer, the web, and mobile devices.

Instructions

Before you begin

Before setting up Exchange Online on your device, you must delete any previously existing Exchange email account:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Accounts (or, depending on your device, Users & accounts).
  3. Tap the account you want to remove, and then select Remove account.
  4. If you are removing the only account on your device, you'll need to enter your device's security pattern, PIN, or password.

Automatic setup

Follow the automatic setup instructions first. If these steps don't work, proceed to the manual setup section below.

To set up your Exchange Online account on your Android device:

  1. Go to Settings, and then Accounts, Users and Accounts, or Accounts and Sync.
  2. Choose Add account.
  3. Select Exchange, Exchange ActiveSync, Microsoft exchange, Corporate, Office 365, or Outlook.
    Note:
If you see multiple options from this list, select the one with the icon matching the email app that you would like to use.
  4. When prompted, enter your @iu.edu email address and your IU passphrase.

If prompted, log in with your IU username and passphrase.

    Note:
If you are not prompted to authenticate with Two-Step Login (Duo), and you see an error that says "We're sorry, access is not allowed because you are not enrolled. Please contact your organization's IT help desk for assistance", you'll need to enroll a device in Duo before you can proceed. For more, see Get started with Two-Step Login (Duo) at IU.
  5. If prompted to allow device permissions (or, depending on your device, to apply security settings or activate device admin), choose Accept.
  6. If prompted, choose your selected sync options.
