At IU, how do faculty and staff make long distance and international business calls from traditional desk telephones?

Note:
The following applies only to traditional phones. If your traditional phone has been replaced by the UniCom service (using Skype for Business/Lync and/or a USB or IP phone), see UniCom (unified communications).

At Indiana University Bloomington and IUPUI, administrative domestic long distance calls are included as part of the basic bundle of services from UITS. For corporate rates for international calls, see At IUB and IUPUI, what is the rate for corporate direct-dial long distance calls?

On this page:

Making a long distance call from on campus

  1. Dial 9 to access an outside line.
  2. Dial 1 for domestic calls, or 011 for international calls.
  3. Dial the area code for domestic calls, or the country code (and the city code, if required) for an international call.
  4. Dial the telephone number.
  5. For international calls, when you hear a "stutter" dial tone (two short tones followed by a long tone), dial your Authorization Code.

To make a toll-free call from on campus, dial 9, then 1, and then the number.

Making a long distance campus-to-campus call from an office telephone

You can dial calls between Indiana University Bloomington and IUPUI directly, using only the last five digits of the phone number (e.g., 5-1234).

For other business campus-to-campus calls, dial as you would any other long-distance number (see above).

Making a long distance call from off campus

If you are a faculty or staff member and wish to make a long distance call from off campus, follow the instructions on your IU calling card. To obtain an IU calling card, contact your telecommunications coordinator.

If you do not know who your telecommunications coordinator is, at IU Bloomington, call 812-856-2287; at IUPUI, call 317-274-3004. You can also email Communications Planning and Implementation.
