At IU, what are Extranet accounts?

UITS maintains some computing accounts for people who are not officially part of Indiana University yet still need limited access to IU services, including former students, student applicants, IU High School students, alumni, former employees, and Lifelong Learning students. These accounts are collectively known as Extranet accounts.

Extranet accounts allow users to authenticate through IU's Central Authentication Service. This gives them access to certain IU web applications to perform such tasks as paying the bursar, checking grades, and accessing alumni resources. However, these accounts do not have any access to IU network resources such as VPN or the Student Technology Centers.

Extranet accounts are distinct from Guest accounts and Conference accounts.
