IU Secure wireless connections: Windows Phone 8.1, 8, and 7

IU Secure is the wireless network for students, faculty, and staff to access on all campuses. IU Secure uses WPA2 Enterprise (Wi-Fi Protected Access) for authentication and encryption.

Be sure you are in a location receiving a wireless signal when following these instructions. While it won't damage anything to follow these steps in an uncovered area, you won't get feedback from your device to indicate it's configured correctly, so you increase the possibility of making a mistake.

To configure your device to connect to IU Secure:

In Windows Phone 8.1 and 8, from the Home screen:

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap Wi-Fi.
  3. Tap IU Secure.
  4. Sign in with your IU username and passphrase.

In Windows Phone 7, from the Home screen:

  1. Swipe to the left (or tap the arrow on the right).
  2. Scroll down and tap Settings.
  3. Scroll down and tap Wi-Fi.
  4. To the right of the "Wi-Fi networking" section, make sure the on/off slider is set to "on".
  5. Check Notify me when new networks are found.
  6. Tap IU Secure. Enter your IU username and passphrase in the boxes indicated.
  7. Tap the network name (eduroam or IU Secure). For eduroam, log in with your primary IU email address and your IU passphrase. For IU Secure, sign in with your IU username and passphrase in the boxes indicated.
  8. Tap the check at the bottom to save the information and finish.
  • If you can't connect to the IU Secure wireless network, make sure your IU username and passphrase are correct when you attempt to log in. UITS testing has revealed that invalid logins are a prime reason people have trouble connecting.
  • When you try to connect to IU Secure for the first time, you may be prompted to accept a new security certificate. Verify that the certificate is issued by "InCommon RSA Certification Authority", and click OK or Connect. If you continue to experience issues, see About the IU wireless certificate for eduroam and IU Secure.
  • If your device does not support WPA2 Enterprise, you will be unable to connect it to IU Secure.
